Media Arts Scholarships

The Department of Media Arts offers numerous scholarships that are available to YOU, the student. Read through the list of scholarships below carefully to see which have criteria you meet, and apply by the due date. You may apply for more than one scholarship.

The application deadline for the 2017-2018 year is Friday, March 2nd, 2018 at 11:59 PM.

You’ll need to cite a Media Arts faculty member as your Faculty Sponsor in your application. This should be someone who can speak to your participation in the Media Arts department (projects, student organizations, volunteering, etc.).

Media Arts encourages students to also apply for University-Sponsored Scholarships.

 

Heather Uffelman Memorial Scholarship

Annual award. This endowed scholarship, established by both the Media Arts  Department and the English Department, is in memory of Heather Uffelman, who died in 1992, the victim of a robbery.

Requirements:

  • Available to students who reflect Heather’s love of the written word and her dedication to media projects.
  • Applicants compete in an essay contest, with finalists interviewed by faculty members representing both departments.

Les Jamison Memorial Scholarship

Annual award. This scholarship must be awarded to a student majoring in radio/television with emphasis in radio.

Requirements:

  • Media Arts concentration, emphasis in radio.

Michael J. Kettenring Scholarship

Annual awards, based on interest generated by endowment, Michael J. Kettenring was president and general manager of WSMV-TV, Nashville, Tennessee, for 15 years. This endowed scholarship is his way of repaying the community for its support.

Requirements:

  • Junior or first semester Senior
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
  • Media Arts Major
  • Current active participation in campus media

Media Arts Department Scholarship

Annual awards to Media Arts students.

Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior level
  • Minimum 2.8 overall GPA
  • Media Arts concentration
  • Previous media arts experience (on or off campus)
  • Current active involvement in the areas of media arts

Country Radio Broadcaster’s Scholarship

Thanks to the generosity of the Country Radio Broadcaster’s organization, Media Arts will award scholarship to those majors who have earned candidacy and who have expressed a desire for a career in radio.

Requirements:

  • Candidacy
  • Media Arts concentration, emphasis in radio.

Tennessee Association of Broadcasters Scholarship

Annual awards to Media Arts students in memory of Jill Green.

Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior level
  • Minimum 2.8 overall GPA
  • Media Arts concentration

David & Mary Elizabeth Thomas Memorial Scholarship

Annual award to Media Arts students

Requirements:

  • Full-time student
  • At least Junior level
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
  • Media Arts concentration
  • Exhibit great promise for a career in the field of media arts

Rentacamera.com Scholarship

Annual award. This scholarship will be awarded to students studying Photography or Video and Film Production.

Requirements:

  • Photography and Video and Film Production concentrations.
  • Preference given to students to Juniors and Seniors (60 hours or more earned).
  • Preference given to students who have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA

 

Dr. Tom Berg Memorial Scholarship

Annual award to Media Arts students.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Junior of Senior
  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0
  • Should be an active participant in at least one departmental activity or organization
  • Preference given to students who have studies abroad or plan to study abroad

 

Dr. Mary Nichols Scholarship

Annual award to Film and Video Production students.
